“I had a great experience in your class. You made me feel very comfortable and confident and were able to inspire me if I painted myself into a corner. Your help with my own class at Sitton was really exciting as well. The children loved working with you on their Architects in Schools project.” – Leslie Rosenberg, Portland

“I took a beginning art class that covered drawing and painting from PCC. Suzy was my teacher. I honestly had not done any art since grade school. I was convinced that I had no talent but wanted to give it a try. Suzy changed my view of Art. She gave feedback and guidance without being intimidating. She made everyone feel welcome. She is so talented and so generous in sharing her knowledge. I plan to take more classes from her and I highly recommend her regardless of your skill level. She is the real deal.” – Patti Bryan, Portland

“I have had the honor of receiving art instruction from Suzy Kitman at the Multnomah Arts Center in Portland, Oregon. I chose her oils class over other classes offered because of her extraordinary curriculum vitae. In person, Ms. Kitman is a wonderful instructor, so knowledgable and experienced and keenly aware of and sensitive to the insecurities of her students! The body of her work is outstanding. This opinion must be shared as she is very often invited to shows and exhibitions where she demonstrates her techniques on site and is included in fine artists’ studio tours. I have had the pleasure of seeing some of her commissions and have been charmed especially by her portraits. I will watch for her future successes with pleasure!” – Sarah Bronte Eckstein, Portland

“I have taken classes from Suzy and have learned so much from her; techniques which I have continued to use in my own painting. I also collaborated with her in conducting a workshop last summer on the Oregon coast and got to know her on a more personal basis. She is not only a talented and effective instructor but a friendly and charming person whom I now consider a good friend.” – Jacelyn Simonsky, Hillsboro

“My son took a class from you several years ago and is still demonstrating the techniques he learned there. He typically resists the introduction of anything that is contrary to his norm, and he showed that resistance in your class. I appreciate the manner in which you held him to the task without discouraging his learning. He continues to create drawings that reflect the disciplines you introduced to him. My list of things to do has your painting class on it, and I hope one day soon to make that happen! Thank you.” – Laura Glassford, Portland

“Suzy Kitman is an outstanding teacher. I have had the good fortune of studying both still life painting and figure painting under her tutelage. She has a gift of guiding the student to a new direction in painting with simple observations. It would have taken me years to discover this information on my own, and it is always an eye opening experience. She has a wonderful sense of color, value, and form. I recommend her highly for both painting and for the shear delight of her company.” – Loren Ladizinsky, Lake Oswego

“I have taken several of Suzy’s oil painting classes at Multnomah Art Center; portrait painting and figure painting. For me this was time very well spent. I think my paintings improved a lot after each course. Suzy is very patient and molds her instruction to the skill of each student. She gives a lot of personal one-on-one help to every student which is extremely helpful. I highly recommend her classes to any artist at any skill level.” – Rich Hoffman, Astoria

“Suzy is outstanding at working with and teaching painting to *any* level of student. I was a complete beginner when I started studying with Suzy, and now am in my 4th class with her. She is very talented, inspiring and has a desire to help each individual student progress at their natural pace. I am pleased at what I’ve been able to create and accomplish under Suzy’s mentorship!” – Nanette Cobbley, Beaverton

“Not many teachers have Suzy’s understanding of the craft of painting, but what makes her unusual, I think, is her respect for you as an individual. No two people paint alike, and Suzy’s strength is that she doesn’t try to stuff you into a preconceived mold, come hell or high water. She figures out pretty quickly what you’re about, and helps you get where you’re trying to go.” – Jim Long, Portland

“I have been taken Suzy’s group classes for over two years and can honestly say it has been a wonderful experience. I’ve always wanted to learn how to paint and finally found an instructor who has given me hope. As a gifted artist and an insightful person, she is able to create a classroom environment where you are respected no matter your skill level. Her encouragement and ability to instill confidence makes learning very easy. I have been so pleased with her that I decided to take one on one classes for further development. We work together once a week in her studio where I get a lot of one on one attention. She is teaching me the value of patience and all the other skills that create a good artist. I continue to learn and grow and will probably continue taking classes from her for some time to come.
My husband and I value her work to the point we have actually commissioned her to provide paintings for our home and family members. The paintings are amazing and so real you feel like you are in them. We get lots of compliments. One painting in particular stands out. I had taken a picture of my daughter and her pug one summer day walking down the beach in Newport. They were in front of me so they didn’t know I was taking the picture. My daughter’s pug is on a leash running around her. The picture came out so well that I wanted it captured in oil. I commissioned Suzy to do it. The outcome was truly incredible. I gave the painting to my daughter. She really treasures it and has gotten numerous compliments on it. Once again, her paintings are so real you feel like you are in them.
Without hesitation I would recommend Suzie to anyone who is interested in developing their own skills as an artist through classroom or one on one instruction. More importantly, I would check out her work. She has the gift!” – Sandy Hagspiel, Portland
